How do I install the program on my computer? |
|
|
The installation procedure is displayed on the inside cover of the CD. |
How do I un-install the program from my computer? |
|
|
The best way to un-install the program is to Click on
Start on your desktop, then Settings, then Control Panel and
finally Add/Remove Programs. When you have the Add/Remove Window,
browse down to the Randall program, highlight it, and click on the Add/Remove
Button. In some cases you may have to manually remove some additional
files. A complete instruction list is available
on the Un-Installing the CD Page. |
Can I speed up the search functions and the newsletter/catalog display? |
|
|
Yes. The newsletters and catalogs normally reside on the
CD which is much slower than the computer's hard drive. If you have
enough space on your hard drive, approximately 200 MByes for the newsletters and 250
MBytes for the catalogs, you may transfer these files to your hard
drive by clicking on the System Setup" Button on the main
program display screen and then selecting the buttons to move the
newsletters and/or catalogs to your hard drive. |
How do I add "favorites" to the heart icon's "favorite" selection? |
|
|
Click "Favorite" on the main command menu, and then click on the
"Add Favorite" selection. Follow the instructions shown on the screen. |
What is the difference in the various "Zoom" functions in the catalog section? |
|
|
Clicking on the "Zoom+" icon button enlarges the
catalog display page to maximum view size. Clicking on the "Zoom-" icon button
decreases the catalog display page to its small view size. These icon commands are identical
to the selections "Zoom In" and "Zoom Out" under the View Menu, respectively.
these zoom commands expand or enlarge the catalog picture and place the display
starting at the top, left corner of the screen. However, an additional zoom feature is
avialble by just clicking an area on the catalog display screen. If the catalog
display is in the small view, clicking on any particular area of the display
will enlarge the view centered around the "clicked" area. Clicking on an
enlarged display will reduce the view back to normal, centered around the area
that was "clicked" on the large view. |
What is the difference in searching by text or clicking on the index? |
|
|
Searching by text has the capability to locate every
occurance of that text in all of the newletters. Clicking on the
"Find Next" icon or menu command will find the next occurance of that text by
searching all the rest of the newsletters in sequence. The index search is different. Clicking on an
index subject, even if it is the same text phrase, will locate
predetermined matches for the respective subject that have been selected to
closely match the subject intent, not just the text as stated. The index search is much faster than
the text search as it directly loads the correct newsletter and locates the desired subject, whereas
the full text search must scan each newsletter to find the next occurance. However, the index search will
only locate predetermined subject areas and will not locate every occurance
of that text, whereas the text search will. |
In the install process, is it really necessary to reboot my computer? |
|
|
It may not be necessary to reboot your
computer. It depends upon what files had to be loaded during the
install process and whether some of they alrady existed on your
system. Some files do require rebooting the computer. Therefore, in general, it is always a
good idea to reboot after installation. |
Is it possible to print newsletter or catalog information? |
|
|
Due to copyright agreements a direct
print function was not included in the program. However it is possible
to print information. Use the Copy Command in the Edit Menu
to copy highlighted newsletter information or catalog pages to any
word processor or graphics package, respectively. Paste the copied
information to the new program and use its print function to print
the data. |
How do I tell which newsletter or catalog I have on the display screen? |
|
|
The name/date of the newletter or catalog is
located on the very top line of the program screen, i.e. the windows command
line. Click on any particular newsletter or catalog and you will
see this line change to show what is displayed. |
Why do the colors seem faded on the catalog or newsletter display? |
|
|
Your screen color setting is probably set to 256. Place your mouse over an empty area on your desktop and click on the right mouse key. When the display selection screen comes up, select "Settings" and then select, at a minimum, the High Color (16 bit) setting. Restart your computer and the display should now be fine. |
